LAMKO is your student union LAMKO is the student union of Lahti University of Applied Sciences (LUAS). The student union is a legally operating community and its job is to promote the interests of the students of LUAS. Part of promoting the interests of the students is to monitor the quality of education, acquiring member benefits and promoting social policy interests. LAMKO’s task among others is to choose student representatives to the LUAS’s board of directors and to various different working groups. LAMKO can also function on a national level through its umbrella organization, the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK ry).
All the operators in LAMKO are students, except the secretaries. LAMKO is run by a board of students, who all have their own special area of which they take are in charge of and which they develop. The highest decision power is at LAMKO’s board of representatives, which is elected out of all running candidates. The board of representatives assigns and releases the student board. Secretary General is in charge of running the everyday functions of the student union, e.g. ordering the student cards and acquiring member benefits. Secretary of tutoring is in charge of recruiting new tutors, organizing the tutor interviews and tutor training and taking care of the international activities. LAMKO members get many discounts and benefits in the Lahti area and also nationwide. For example, as a member you can buy train and bus tickets half price, get school books a bit cheaper at some bookstores and get discounts at restaurants or bars.
